Annie Austin Theatre reviews
Annie needs to have red hair!
The students at Sacred Heart were good, and the lead roles were very talented. Most of the other students were often out of tune with one another, and with varying skills, which was evident. Some looked as though they didn't care to be there, at least from where Iw as sitting on the side - I could see into the back. For the price, $30, it was worth it. The students are talented, of course, but I wouldn't go back to the Shubert in New Haven if its not to see professional actors. The student that played Annie in this play doesn't have red hair nor does she resemble the character in any way. You expect to see a red head playing Annie, or at least a wig. The costumes were great though.
Upon arrival in the lobby and before the play began in the theater, the Sacred Heart alumni were the primary focus, making others feel like this was a performance solely for the alumni, not for the public. This was unexpected but fine of course, they appear to be very proud alumni. A little awkward because most of the alumni around us were the ones talking during the performance. They stood in the narrow aisles chatting while so many folks couldn't get by during intermission. Found them to be the rudest people there.
There were a large number of audience members that arrived late. They were allowed to come in long after the show started, causing so much noise that we couldn't hear the play. This went on for the first 30 mins of the show!
I really wanted to see Annie, but the entire experience didn't quite meet our expectations. We only paid $30, I wouldn't pay more than that for this show. Sorry, we just had different expectations. At least, a red haired Annie!
Much rather pay the money and go to NYC to see it.
This type of show is best for the little kids, mine enjoyed it of course.
